As a tight-knit team passionate about pushing the boundaries of gameplay, narrative, and technology, we're seeking a talented Level Designer to join our journey. With the flexibility of remote work, you'll collaborate closely with our engineering department to bring imaginative worlds to life.

The Role

As a Level Designer at VGS, you'll blend creativity with technical skills to shape the building blocks of our expansive worlds. This role not only demands a visionary approach to level creation but also integrates level artistry, requiring a keen eye for detail and aesthetics to make final placements shine in our dynamic environments.

What You Will Do

  • Design and implement compelling levels using Unreal Engine 5.7+, incorporating innovative gameplay mechanics and narratives.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to ensure levels are optimized for performance without compromising on artistic vision.
  • Utilize WorldPartition systems effectively to manage and optimize large-scale open worlds.
  • Take charge of final aesthetic placements as a Level Artist, ensuring a seamless blend between gameplay functionality and visual storytelling.
  • Participate in regular team meetings, contributing to the creative process and development strategies.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry-standard tools and technologies, pushing the limits of what's possible within game design.

  • Self-motivated, with a strong sense of ownership over your work and the capability to follow through on projects from conception to completion.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Level Designer, specifically in creating open-world games using Unreal Engine 5.
  • Familiarity with the WorldPartition system and an understanding of how to employ its features for large-scale world design.
  • Proficiency in using version control systems such as Git or Anchor Point.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing previous work in level design and level artistry, including concrete examples of both conceptual and finalized designs.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with scripting or programming languages relevant to game development.
  • Advanced skills in environmental storytelling and creating visually compelling scenes.
  • Prior work on AAA or indie games that have been successfully published.
